Liangzhu梁祝化蝶

Liangzhu梁祝化蝶

This is a project for my Design and Materiality I class. I was inspired by an ancient Chinese love story, Liangzhu. It is like the Chinese version of Romeo and Juliet, except that they had a better ending —- Shantai Liang and Yingtai Zhu turned into butterfly together after they died for each other.

My class focused on the head, neck, and shoulder part of the body, so I decided to make a shoulder cape. Techniques used for this project: embroidery (couching), beading, quilting, textile dyeing, textile block-printing, quilting, fabric layering.
