My research question is: “How do Hanfu represent cultural pride in modern Chinese society?”. Growing up, I was amazed by Chinese traditional garments I saw from TV shows, but when I asked for one of my own, I got rejected. The reason was that it will not fit in. But I question, this is our culture and traditions, why are we worrying about it not fitting in? The sort of embarrassment and unconfident came from some historical events, but of course, things are different now, thanks to the Hanfu Movement. I am passionate about this topic because I saw its beauty, and I see how it brings my people pride culturally nowadays, as well as how it impacts the modern day fashion industry. This is also a process for me to find the relationship between creativity, tradition, and cultural appropriation.
